HPC Access

AI-ready supercomputing power to train, test and scale your AI models

MareNostrum5

MareNostrum5 is one of the most complete and versatile supercomputers on the planet — and the only one with two systems ranked among the top 20 most powerful in the world. Hosted and operated by BSC, it serves as a key European infrastructure for scientific progress in all domains.

Thanks to its unique computational architecture, MareNostrum5 supports breakthrough research in areas such as digital twins of the Earth and the human body, the development of new cancer treatments, the design of more sustainable cities, the discovery of new energy sources, and the creation of advanced materials.

Optimised for AI

As part of the BSC AI Factory, MareNostrum 5 integrates a dedicated AI partition specifically designed to accelerate artificial intelligence workflows — from model training to large-scale inference.

This AI partition doubles the system’s original capacity and incorporates the latest architectures optimised for tasks such as Large Language Model (LLM) development, deep learning, and data-intensive applications. Its configuration balances computing technologies to adapt to the nature and volume of each project, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and responsibly.

Supercomputing made accessible

The BSC AI Factory offers free access to AI-optimised HPC infrastructure for SMEs and startups. Applications are managed through the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and can be submitted online at any time. There are three access modes, each designed to support different types of users and workloads:

Playground Access

For new or entry-level users who want to explore AI Factory capabilities or run small-scale experiments.

This mode is ideal for short testing phases, tool evaluation, and onboarding support.

Fast Lane Access

It provides access to up to 50,000 GPU hours and is suited for running MVPs, applied research, or pilot deployments

This access mode also supports projects lasting up to three months on a single system.

Large Scale Access

For mature, high-impact AI projects that require more than 50,000 GPU hours and extended compute time

Proposals can request allocations for three, six, or twelve months, depending on resource intensity.

RES access

The BSC AI Factory also facilitates access to high-performance computing resources through the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) — a nationally distributed infrastructure composed of 14 interconnected nodes across Spain.

The RES provides HPC, data and AI services to research and innovation projects through open, competitive calls, with three access periods per year. Projects are evaluated based on scientific excellence and technical feasibility, and resources are allocated accordingly. Each activity typically lasts 4 months, with the possibility to request extensions or long-term support.

TÜBİTAK

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) provides access to BSC AI Factory by offering computational resources through open and competitive national calls for various projects in Turkey. Turkish start-ups and SMEs can access high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence resources through the MN5 supercomputer infrastructure within the scope of their projects

FCT access

FCT in Portugal enables access to BSC AI Factory, by providing computational resources to research and innovation projects through open, competitive calls and the InovIA initiative, focused on SMEs. The InovIA initiative enables Portuguese Startups and SMEs to access free high-performance computing and artificial intelligence resources at Deucalion and MareNostrum 5, supported by the National Center for Advanced Computing (CNCA -Portugal).
